ASBE Certification FAQ

Who may take ASBE Certification tests?
Anyone interested in furthering their career potential.  You do not need to be an ASBE member to become certified.  However, if you are an ASBE member, you are eligible for fifty dollars off an ASBE certification test (Phase I, Phase II, or CAE Vehicle Analysis).

May I register for more than one test at a time?
Yes, if you want to, however, your work / life experiences should dictate which level of Certification you should sit for.

What can I expect at the test site?
You will be greeted by an ASBE member who will proctor the exam.  Your registration will be verified.  Typically, the room is set up in a normal classroom fashion.

Who proctors the tests?
An ASBE member serves as proctor for tests offered on ASBE schedule.  Online testers must follow directions for obtaining a proctor.

Where are the tests given?
Tests are given at local facilities such as community colleges or supplier sites.  Online testing is also available for most ASBE Certification tests.

How much time does the exam take?
A maximum of four hours is typically allocated.  However, some tests are shorter.

Is a reference reading list available?
Yes, there are study materials as well as a 'lending library' at the ASBE office.  The Study Guide is a 'living' document and is therefore continually updated. Contact the ASBE office for specific information on this topic.

Does my Certification have an expiration date, how do I retain my Certification status?
Yes, ASBE certifies your knowledge level for 5 years.  You may retain your Certification level or you may choose to sit for the next level of Certification as your work experience increases.

Could I just take the 'regular' tests to recertify?
Yes, but a new registration fee would be charged.

What happens if I register and pay for the exam but do not show up on the test date?
Notify the ASBE Certification office as soon as possible.  Your fee is non-refundable but will be applied toward a rescheduled exam if taken within one year.

What do I receive to prove that my skills have been ASBE certified?
A registered Certification of Accomplishment, one year membership as an ASBE member, and inclusion in the ASBE database.

Who sees my results?
Results are considered confidential.  ASBE  will only release this information if you submit a written request.  For example, if you should want your employer to be notified by ASBE of your Certification status, you would submit your written request to the Certification office.

How are my results scored and recorded?
Results are scored using a SCANTRON system for manual exams and are automatically recorded for online tests.  Results are Pass / Fail only.

When are the exams given?
Normally the ASBE scheduled tests are administered on a Saturday morning at a local sponsoring facility.  Online tests can be taken at any time.

What is needed for admission to the ASBE scheduled testing facility?
Photo ID and your confirmation letter from ASBE are required for admittance to the test site.
